Inheriting the great tradition of American street photography, Mark Steinmetz offers us an authentic, open-minded photograph that bears witness to fragments of lives encountered during unplanned nonsense.
Through his work, Mark Steinmetz reveals a poetic and narrative vision of his contemporaries.<\/p>\n

A graduate of Yale’s MAL photography program in the early 1980s, Mark Steinmetz spent a year in Los Angeles photographing with Garry Winogrand. In 1994, he moved to Athens, Georgia, where he still lives. His work has been acquired by leading institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. 9 monographs have been published to date, including South East, South Central, Great Atlanta, Angel City West and The Players by Nazraeli Press and 15 Miles in K-Ville, by Stanley\/Barker. Mark Steinmetz recently participated in the Picturing the South project initiated by the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, which is on display in 2017. Among other awards, he is also a recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Scholarship.<\/p>\n
